May 2014

Our Trickle In Activity for May was to create heart window catchers for our mothers or another influential woman in our life.

Our Sibshoppers wrote "Love Notes" to their mothers and expressed their gratitude for wonderful women!
Our Sibshoppers LOVE a spirited game of Balloon Foot Volleyball!  They complain after awhile about their sore arms from maintaining the crab position, but what doesn't kill ya makes you stronger, right?!

You are only allowed to use your feet and your head to volley the balloon.  Our kids sometimes succumb to the temptation of using their hands.
Having two or three balloons going keeps everyone involved and having fun.

We had a really great discussion activity after watching an excellent video about having a sibling with special needs. You can watch it HERE.

Our Sibshoppers are so willing to share their experiences (the good, the bad, the so-so) of having a sibling with special needs. They make great connections with one another and it is our hope that those shared experiences will strengthen each of them individually and in their homes.
We were lucky to have Cameron join us as a volunteer this month! He set up the most ridiculously fun obstacle course.

Another of our classic discussion activities is the "M&M Game." We are all a little more motivated to share our experience when chocolate is on the line! You answer the color coded question, you get to eat that color of chocolate candy. Some of are questions are silly while some require a little more introspection. It is a sweet way to get the kids talking!

We have an amazing group of Sibshoppers! They are fun, smart, kind, brave kids!

Don't be sad, we'll see you next month!

April 2014's Spring Fling!

Our Sibshoppers got right to work creating their hard boiled scuba divers!

They are hysterically clever and cute!
The beautil ful spring weather permitted us to head outside for a crazy game of Clothespin tag!

The kids were super excited to add an egg hunt to the days agenda! They searched high and low with lightning quick speed to find some candy filled eggs.

What the kids didn't know is that some of the eggs were filled with suggestions of silly things to do like "Roll the egg across the floor with your nose!" Other eggs contained questions about what it is like to have a sib with special needs.  The kids were great sports and played along while munching on sweets!
We tuckered the kids right on out and then brought them in to tell us a little bit about what makes them and their sib with special needs "Egg-Stra" special!

They shared their responses with us "soapbox" style!

We've got some talented, insightful Sibshoppers on our hands. You all are tremendously lucky to have these kiddos in your families.
We wrapped up our Spring Fling Sibshop by creating some colorful fun cupcakes to share with our siblings.  (I'm not exactly sure how many treats made it home to be shared, but hopefully it is the thought that counts!)
