Feb 2018 Chinese New Year!

Winter has arrived in Utah County and just in time for our Chinese New Year Celebration!
This year is the Year of the Dog so apparently it is a good time to make lifestyle changes and begin business ventures.  So you can quit smoking, start working out and turn your bright idea into the latest must have item.

Our trickle in activity was to create some colorful Chinese Dragons. For those worthy of it the Dragon symbolizes power, strength and good luck.

After group introductions and the review of our rules and expectations, we played a new fun game called "Roll & Race". This dice game had teams trying to advance each member down their pathway with a precise roll of the dice. It truly is a game of chance, but you gotta keep it moving!

We broke our Sibshoppers into pairs so they could complete a New Years Interview with a fellow Sibshopper.

This duo found a secluded corner underneath a table to conduct their top secret interviews.

Each Sibshopper then had the opportunity to introduce their interviewee and a few of their responses to the group. We learned some awesomely fun things about our friends.

So, we kinda stretched the Chinese New Year theme to include a chopstick relay race.  As teams, our Sibshoppers had to move cotton balls via chopstick across the room to a different container.  They could only use one hand and move one cotton ball at a time. This turned out to be a little trickier than we had anticipated as the dexterity and coordination to operate chopsticks was not a skill shared by all.

We included a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activity to get our brains working. Our clever Sibshoppers created some super marshmallow snowmen. They came in all shapes and sizes.

We had a Chinese Meal (thank you Panda Express) and played a game of "Four Corners" before saying goodbye.  We were way too busy enjoying the fried rice and orange chicken to take photos! We are looking forward to March 10th for our next fun filled Sibshop.  Thanks to all our families and participants and volunteers!  We've got a good thing going at Sibshops of Utah County.
